Sony and AT&T have announced the Xperia ion, a name we saw trademarked last week. The Xperia ion features a 4.6-inch 1280 x 720 HD Reality display with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and a massive 12-megapixel Exmor-R rear camera that can capture 1080p video. Additionally, the device sports LTE connectivity, 16GB of internal storage, and a 1.3MP front-facing camera that can record 720p video. The smartphone follows in the footsteps of the Xperia Play and comes “Playstation-Certified.” The ion will be released running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, in the second quarter of this year, with an Ice Cream Sandwich update in the future.
